I went to this concert with my manager from Wendy’s. NOSEBLEED seats far up the stage right side. Motley Crue was touring off the Girls, Girls, Girls album. Tommy Lee did this really cool drum solo on the previous tour (Theater of Pain) using a drum riser that lifted him up during solos, tilting him at a 90° angle so that the crowd was looking down at his playing. THIS tour however, he seriously upped the ante with a dual arm drum cage that could lean in all directions, spin 360° on two different axis – without a doubt the sickest drum solo I have EVER seen performed. Check it out HERE Many do acrobatics on drums now or have done it through the years, but Tommy Lee was the innovator of moving drum riser solos. I included some pictures from the Tour Book.
Guns N’ Roses opened – this was back when Welcome To The Jungle was just out and no one know who they were. I distinctly remember thinking how much they sucked and sounded bad although Steven Adler was completely entertaining to watch. Once I bought the album, I was blown away. One of the greatest bands ever and I dissed them the very first time I saw them. Oh, the shame I feel…

I was there too! I thought the same about GNR. Crazy days! Thanks for sharing!
So funny I was there too and had the exact same review of Guns n Roses I had only heard Welcome to the Jungle maybe once before going. Their sound was so terrible couldn’t understand anything they were playing. I was a band chaser back then trying to meet motley Crue went the Radisson hotel and guess who was there Guns n Roses Axl was drinking a margarita wearing a huge sombrero girl on both arms… Oh the 80s!!
Come on man! It was general admission and I got right up front. I had never heard of Guns n Roses before but I was very impressed by them. In fact I left the show humming Paradise City. Motley were great and that drum solo was certainly something to behold. A great time! I even named my new puppy Motley the next day.

I was there too! I thought GNR was great! Motley didn’t disappoint. I still have a piece of one of balloons they dropped from the ceiling…
I was there too. I went to the front and it was crushing and terrifying. No control of your body. I see how people can get crushed to death. I worked my way out and enjoyed from further away. Tommy Lee’s drum solo is what stands out the most to me too. Impressive. 8 worked the concession stand there (Lakeland Arena) a few months earlier when Run DMC and the Beastie Boys played. I was too busy to see or hear much but I do remember there were female dancers in giant bird cages suspended above the crowd.
I, too, was there!! Select-a-seat. Those were the days!! Went to Lake Gibson junior and senior high. GNR sucked. Almost as bad as their last concert that I saw in Arizona.
