Deftones back in FLA for the first headline show I’ve been to since 2017 (not counting their almost-headlining Rockville 2023). No new album – 2000 Ohms was their last release 4 years ago – just Deftones killing it live with amazing talent and passion. Chino and company brought Fleshwater (another shoegaze-style band) and The Mars Volta along with them for the tour. Fleshwater was a nice, unexpected discovery, and The Mars Volta was playing a brand new, unreleased album in its entirety (Lucro Sucio; Los Ojos del Vacío), something I’ve never seen done before. To quote my good friend Erin, “Now THAT was genuine art we just witnessed.” Erin and Morgan were at the concert, as was Juliet but they were all in seats somewhere cuz I guess they are old ladies now. Jayden and Richard were with me on the floor cuz we about that life.
