Guns N’ Roses started touring again for the first time in a decade to promote the Chinese Democracy album. Well, Axl and his merry band of impostors, that is, since Axl was the only GNR original member left in the band at this point. I recall that it was awesome to see Axl perform and hear the classics. The sound was almost TOO MUCH. They had everything turned to 10 and three amazing guitarists – DJ Ashba, Ron “Bumblefoot” Blumenthal, and Richard Fortus – all trying to take over with their own solos and flavor poured all over the songs. It was a lot of sonic chaos that your ears had to sift through, but it was still seeing GNR for the first time in over a decade and that is very hard to complain about. I ran into my good friend Scott at this concert – someone I hadn’t seen in 14 years at that point. Given our history and how GNR provided the overarching soundtrack for the younger years when we hung out together, it was so fitting to run into Scott at this show. After 14 Years (GNR song reference here) of silence, we ran into each other during the middle of the show among all the insanity. This was not to be our last GNR concert together (see the 2017 concerts).
Buckcherry was the opening band and I have always loved their energy and Dirt Rock style of music. The GNR setlist can be found HERE.
